Aside from drawing in the margins of his notebooks, Mentaiko Itto never went to school for art, and never had an art-related job. After he graduated in 2005, while working at a part-time job, he realized he wanted to start illustrating and authoring manga online.

Well worth the wait!

Incredibly happy to see Mentaiko get an official English release, I've been a fan of since before he did doujins so this is huge imo. Now I've only been able to read the first story (Priapus I) but I quite enjoyed what I saw in translation and uncensored artwork which was the most important thing to me as well as many of Mentaiko's fans. Only issue so far I saw was some of the pages were too small for the text bubbles. None of the words get cut up but letters do get cut so its still a noticeable concern. I attached a photo of how it looks on some pages.

As for the stories whats included is Priapus I-III, Gachinko Battle, 1/4 and 1000 Meters Underwater. Since I've only read the first story and have refused to pirate I can't comment on how good these stories are but if you're familiar with Mentaiko the subject matter, comedy, sex, etc should please you.

If you're a new fan and want a bridge from yaoi to the "bara" world Mentaiko is perfect for this as his style of storytelling and art is uniquely playful, passionate, emotional (at times) and truly fantasy based. Unlike previously released artists like Tagame or Jiraiya, Mentaiko's men have very little body hair, are lean but toned/muscular and are usually young. Basically if you like what you see on the cover (or what you see when googling Mentaiko), you'll enjoy this release.

Overall though its a quality release. His afterword makes me happy that I waited to read his work legally and its great to know that he's happy about an uncensored English release. I really hope more of his work, especially his artwork will be released in English/uncensored as he is an amazingly talented artist who spends a lot of time perfecting the "assets" of his men.

You must buy this book. Now.

Finally in English, this outstanding collection of one of Japan's leading gay mangaka is worth every cent and then some. Most people who are familiar with Mentaiko Itto have already read these works as fan scanlations, without a doubt. However, this volume is a "definite buy" for several reasons.

* It is the first time Mentaiko's art has been made available uncensored. "De-censored" works, while respectable, are just not the same as seeing the original, unmasked versions from the artist himself. As he says in the afterword, "Having to cover up those genitals that I'd worked so hard to draw always made me sad, but knowing that everything I drew will now be on full display makes me very happy."

* You are supporting the artist by buying this book. Whatever percentage is paid to him as royalties is still that much more than he receives from scanlated versions. It is our duty as fans to support the artists who work so hard to please us. It's just the right thing to do. While I enjoy plenty of scanlated works myself, I did not hesitate to buy this volume when I saw it.

* You encourage both Mentaiko and other gay artists to continue publishing more uncensored works in English. Wouldn't it be great to see volume after volume of dicks and asses hanging out, fluids covering the page, and not a single censor bar to be found? I think it would be a step closer to heaven, quite honestly.

There are probably a ton more reasons, but all you need is one. The art is exceptional, the stories are great, and the smut is top notch. If you are a fan of gay comics, even if you've never read Mentaiko or any other Japanese mangaka before, then you really must buy this book. Or, if you're a fan of gay erotica but have never really gotten into comics, you really should read it. Even if you're a maniacal fujōshi who reads 10 volumes of BL manga each day, you should still buy Mentaiko's first English release. I promise, you will not be disappointed in Mentaiko's art.

Itto Mentaiko, my most favorite author!!! His first collection available in English!!! Artwork is fantastic!!!

Itto Mentaiko is my favorite Bara manga author. I love his style from his artwork to his storytelling. I was so happy to purchase his first collection of stories. I don't know where to begin on to describe this product. This book is titled "Priapus" but there is more than one story in this collection. This book comes with 3 chapters of Priapus, then single chapter stories of Gachinko Battle, 1/4 and 1000 Meters Deep. 6 Chapters altogether. This book is bigger than your average manga book which is great because the panels are bigger as well and the book comes with folded covers with artwork from some of the stories included in front and back of the book. The cool thing about this collection is there are no censorships in the art, it was mentioned by the Mentaiko in his afterword that you are seeing his hardwork censor-free, which is really great. The publisher is Bruno Gmunder, a German publisher that published Mentaiko's work in English. Thank you so much to this publisher for making Mentaiko and other bara authors works available to a wider audience. Physical releases of bara titles released outside Japan were hard to come before Bruno Gmunder starting publishing selected titles. I hope they publish more of Mentaiko's work, looking forward to second collection and more :) Definitely pick this book up if your a fan of bara manga. Bara manga audience is different from yaoi, its men's love compared to boy's love, even though older teenagers and young adults can still make an appearance in bara stories. But with Mentaiko's art style comes off as in between bara and yaoi, the guys are leaner and less hairy but they are still fit and less androgynous and more masculine looking. Again pick this up if your a fan of men's love manga, help support so we can get more bara books published.

About the Author

Dr. Ashley Godbold is a programmer, game designer, artist, mathematician, and teacher. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, a Master of Science in Mathematics, a Bachelor of Science in Game Art and Design, and a Doctor of Computer Science in Emerging Media, where her dissertation research focused on educational video game design. She works full-time as a game developer and also runs a small indie/passion studio. She teaches college courses in Unity, 3ds Max, Adobe Flash, game design, and mathematics.

Simon Jackson has been a tinkerer, engineer, problem solver, and solution gatherer ever since his early years. In short, he loves to break things apart, figure out how they work, and then put them back together; usually better than before. He started way back when with his first computer, the Commodore Vic20. It was simple, used a tape deck, and forced you to write programs in Basic or assembly language; those were fun times. From there, he progressed through the ZX Spectrum +2 and the joyous days of modern graphics, but still with the 30-minute load times from a trusty tape deck. Games were his passion even then, which led to many requests for another gaming machine, but Santa brought him an Amstrad 1640, his first PC. From there, his tinkering and building exploded, and that machine ended up being a huge monstrosity with so many add-ons and tweaked fixes. He was Frankenstein, and this PC became his own personal monster crafted from so many parts. Good times. This passion led him down many paths, and he learned to help educate others on the tips and tricks he learned along the way; these skills have equipped him well for the future. Today, he would class himself as a game development generalist. He works with many different frameworks, each time digging down and ripping them apart, and then showing whoever would listen through his blog, videos, and speaking events how to build awesome frameworks and titles. This has been throughout many generations of C++, MDX, XNA (what a breath of fresh air that was), MonoGame, Unity3D, The Sunburn Gaming Engine, HTML, and a bunch of other proprietary frameworks - he did them all. This gives him a very balanced view of how to build and manage many different types of multiplatform titles. He didn't stop there as he regularly contributed to the MonoGame project, adding new features and samples, and publishing on NuGet. He also has several of his own open source.

This book by Ashley Godbold is a very detailed guide for the game developer desiring to get the most out of Unity.
Don't be fooled by the title referring to 2D games! Though the book actually contains a step by step guide for creating a full featured, RPG styled 2D game with Unity, it also provides useful resources and excellent programming techniques that put this manual a step beyond its competitors!
An absolute "must have" for anyone willing to improve his skills with Unity and make better games.
Sincerely recommended!

Academic tries to convert his enthusiasm into scholarship, fails

Don't let that bilious fuchsia-and-yellow cover get your hopes up, fanboys - we're in academe! Cobbled together from discrete articles* by a humanities prof who's himself also a long-time comics fanboy or, as he would no doubt put it, collector, this reads like a textbook - that is, uninspired - and all the unfair and unsubstantiated snark directed at earlier surveys of the field (see Further Reading section) won't make this rose smell any sweeter. Pics are tired, text half-hearted - almost any book about comics you care to pick up will yield more pleasure and illumination, more PASSION, even the very old Penguin Book of Comics and Couperie & Horn's History of the Comic Strip, both of which have the added interest of including Europe. It is SO not just an 'American art form', guys! Though the not-so-egregious professor wheels out that hoary and tendentious claim once again..

* Charlie Chaplin and the Comics? Meh. Faulkner Reads the Funny Papers is about the best - mostly this is just bog-standard history, as we say in the UK (possible meaning: to be consigned to the bathroom?)

Great way to tell your children what mommy does when she goes to work. I never realized my children don't know what I do during the work day! Sweet and relatable, well written. I loved the part when the mom misses her children and looks at the family pictures on her desk. I would recommend this book.

Great book! Kids and mom love it. I enjoyed reading "Mommy goes to the office" with my 2 kids. I am going to start a new job soon, so this book was perfect to share with my kids how my days will look like. Both, my little one as my old one liked the book. I was thinking that it is more for little ones but my daughter 8 years old who usually read chapter books loved it and read it many times. I highly recommend it and would think all ages will enjoy this cute and sweet book!

Wonderful book that helps explain what mommy does at work. Very well written and fun to read for all ages. I think it's important to explain to kids what we do when we are not with them so they understand why we go to work. This book does just that - in a very eloquent manner. Definitely would recommend to anyone who is or is contemplating becoming a working mom!
