Really nice quality, nice variety of pictures as well. Single sided, but not perforated. Color key does not have names of colors but finished pictures are included which can help decipher some of the colors. Good combination also of smaller and larger details to color. Good addition to the color by number books available!

Excellent guide to the best business practices in Workforce Shaping

Dan Ward has put together an excellent reference for working through personnel development in the workforce 3.0 environment.

"Positioned" is well-written and logical. It fits nicely with other, cutting edge works, e.g., Dan Pink's "Drive."

The tone is conversational, and you can tell from the first chapter that Dan Ward is someone that has applied his lessons to many practical situations.

I appreciate that the author also points out the limits of his personnel theory. Many authors wax eloquently about their successes, but they are mum on where their points don't apply. Dan Ward boldly tells you where this doesn't work, e.g., static labor pools, low end skill positions, etc.

My Division is actively applying Ward's techniques!

Tantra is a holistic approach to the study of the universal from the point of view of the individual. It draws on all the sciences to provide a practical means of realizing the highest ideals of philosophy in daily life.

Tantric yantras are precise geometric forms that have been used for centuries as tools for self-realization and the attainment of mystical powers. Until recently the actual forms and colors of yantras, as well as their practical and spiritual applications, were largely lost to the modern world.

Harish Johari, accomplished artist, sculptor, Tantric practitioner and scholar, traveled throughout India in search of ancient examples of the primordial yantras. In Tools for Tantra he has re-created their exact colors and proportions along with step-by-step instructions for the accurate construction, coloring, and use of yantras.

Traditional Hindu practices associated with yantras are also fully elaborated; among these are meditation and visualization techniques, as well as methods of attuning with bodily, seasonal, and astrological cycles. A physiological understanding of these disciplines and their effects on the central nervous system is discussed in detail, reaffirming the link between the Eastern Tantric explanation of phenomena and the evidence presented by Western scientific research.

About the Author
Harish Johari (1934-1999) was a painter, sculptor, and composer of Indian music. He authored twelve books on Eastern spirituality, including Ayurvedic Massage; Ayurvedic Healing Cuisine; Breath, Mind, and Consciousness; The Birth of the Ganga; Dhanwantari; and Chakras. He also produced several audiocassettes of mantra meditations, including Sounds of Tantra, Attunements for Day and Night, and Sounds of the Chakras.

good resource for students of tantra, though imperfect.

There are a number of reviews here warning against this book, not for its actual content, but because of the idea of practicing Tantra. I will try to restrict this review to a critique of the actual book. I'll venture to say that I doubt this book was written with the intention of use by dabblers in Tantra without teachers. It is constructed in such a way as to offer reasonably authentic material, though without essential pieces taught by authentic teachers, which are generally the pieces that could get students into trouble, or more specifically, toward some kind of spiritual enlightenment. This is the nature of a secretive, initiatory system such as Tantra.

The primary problem with this work, in my opinion, is its transliteration. Sanskrit mantras are transliterated into Hindi pronunciation (for instance, hring instead of hrim), and genuine tantric practitioners will note that pronunciation is an important component of effective sadhana, at least at the intermediate and advanced levels.

I would recommend this book to those who are already familiar with Tantra, who wish to widen their perspective and have access to a number of useful materials, such as mantras (though, as warned above, they are not transliterated correctly, and those who do not speak and read Sanskrit may not catch this), yantras and useful (if not always correct, in its attempts to capture universality) interpretations, definitions and explications of imagery and practices. I would not recommend it for beginners, although it is useful in breaking the notion that Westerners often have, that Tantra is all about sex (which it most certainly is not!).

One does not learn the tantric path with a book!

That said, this is a good book on tantra. A customer warns against some possibilites to be led astray, but I can only say this -- if one reads BOOKS on kabbalah without the insight of a teacher one can also be led astray, or books on any of the hgiher level mystic teachings. All the dzogchen paths require a teacher, and tantra is a serious practice that is not about sex but about working with desires. Anyone stepping onto a path that works with one's shadow material should get the best teachers, with long lineage, and not go to weekend workshops or rely on books for their teachers. Harish Johari is an excellent artist and teacher.

This book is going to be around for a while. The chapters are well organized and students become engaged quite easily when using this book. I've found that it is easy to read and enjoyable. Everything taught in this book is relavent and useful.

About the Author

J. K. Yates, PhD, BSCE, is a civil and construction engineering consultant, emeritus professor, and former dean, as well as having been the associate editor of the Project Management Institute's (PMI) Project Management Journal for 10 years. Dr. Yates has extensive hands-on experience working both domestically and globally for companies such as Bechtel, Williams Companies, CH2M Hill, and URS (formerly Morrison-Knudsen). A former member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, PMI, and the American Association of Cost Engineers International, Dr. Yates has written and had published eight books and over 50 refereed journal articles on civil and construction engineering, project management, and international engineering and construction.

Daniel Castro-Lacouture, Ph.D, PE, is a professor and chair of the School of Building Construction, in the College of Architecture at Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta. His overall area of interest consists of defining and deploying evaluation protocols for technology innovations in the built environment, focusing on areas affecting the built environment from both operational and sustainability perspectives. Dr. Castro-Lacouture is a registered professional engineer, associate editor of Automation in Construction, and member of the International Green Builder Certification Board. He was chair of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) 2014 Construction Research Congress, and has worked in construction engineering and management in both the public and private sectors.

Dianetics 55

In my life time of 40 plus, I have spent 19 of it in schooling. I have attended 3 major universities and have read a lot about many subjects, but I have to confess that my enlightenment came toward the end of my formal education when I discovered the works of L. Ron Hubbard. I learned about a lot of things when I was in and out of college, but mostly in general sense that had very little aplicability. Hubbard's very straight forward and common sense approach raises one's eye brows with a new level of understanding of truth. I picked up this book 3 summers ago and went to the beach for a weekend. I received a sever sun burn from the 2 days I spent reading this book under the sun. I could not put it down once I began reading it. If you ever had trouble communicating to either make yourself understood or understanding someone else, you should read this book. If you want to know when and how we begin reading into a situation and with all it's potential how we actively make it work against us instead of for us, read this book. Learn about the fundamentals of the most essential part of our daily living which is to communicate properly. But remember, I did not say you had to be incredibly intelligent, but you have to care and be willing to learn what works. You will agree with what you read

Very enlightening and useful knowledge for everybody

In short I can only say that after reading this book I have understood things and changed conditions in my life in areas that I never dreamed was possible. It has to do with very basic principles in life and existence - I am sure it will touch some basic issues in everybody - if they dare to look at themselves and their surroundings.

A Powerful Tool

I decided I ought to write a review to let people know a) this is a great book, and b) they really ought to read Fundamentals of Thought first. But I see that another reviewer has already pointed that out.

What I WOULD like to stress is that this is a book that puts a very powerful tool in the hands of anyone who is honest enough to use it without having some other axe to grind. The communication principles outlined by Mr. Hubbard can be used (easily!) to analyze and improve every area your life, and to remedy many common problems.

Are there areas in which you are waiting anxiously for someone else to communicate something or to do something you want? Are you hoping for some sort of acknowledgement that you're not likely to get? Do you have unanswered letters around, or things you've wanted to do or agreed to do but haven't yet found time for? Is there someone around who keeps talking to you or directing some other communication your way, and it's driving you nuts? Are there people around you who just don't seem to listen?

If the answer to any of these questions is "yes" (and this is not by any means a complete list--I just took these off the top of my head), or if you're having any OTHER kind of problem in life, YOU NEED TO READ AND APPLY THIS BOOK.

Todd's second mystery set in ancient Greece (after 2007's Blind Eye) offers an ingenious premise but only routine prose and characterization. At a time of great political peril, a delegation of Scythians arrives in Sparta to negotiate a trade agreement that would bolster the city-state's economy. Meanwhile, tensions between citizens and helots (slaves pressed into hard labor or the army) as well as the hovering threat of the Krypteia (the secret police) make daily life difficult. When three people fall victim to an unknown killer, the Krypteia commander recruits Iliona, recently appointed the high priestess of the Temple of Eurotas, to solve the murders, which the rulers of Sparta have concluded are the work of an Athenian agent bent on destabilizing the regime. Readers emotionally invested in the first book in the series will likely find the big reveal at the end shocking, but the motivation for the slaughter may strike others as weak. (Apr.)

Murder in Sparta

Blood Moon is the second in the Priestess Ilona mystery series. I would recommend reading the first book: Blind Eye (High Priestess Iliona Greek Mysteries).

Ilona is the High Priestess of the River God Eurates. She is periodically coerced into helping the Sparta secret police by Lysander the head of the Kryptaei. This time the mystery involves the scalping of young women by a ritual killer.

Ilona is a wonderfully engaging character. We get to know her background as the story evolves. The series is somewhat on the dark side, but I really enjoyed it. She and Lysander have a wonderful love- hate relationship. I am hopeful that the two of them will get together over the course of this series. The background characters like Jocasta, the slave/physician flesh out the story.

Good Reading

If only Iliona wasn’t such a good spy…

All Iliona wants is to serve in the temple of Eurotas and take care of the people who come to her for help. Unfortunately, she’s done an excellent job of spying for Lysander in the past, and now he has another job for her. Iliona would refuse if she could, but Lysander knows too many of her secrets. One word from him and her life could be forfeit. Iliona knows she has no choice, so she grudgingly agrees to help, but solving this mystery brings more pain that Iliona ever could have imagined.

I enjoyed getting to know Iliona better in this book. I read and enjoyed the first book in this series, but I felt that I didn’t know Iliona as well as I would have liked when I finished reading. I’m pleased to report Ms. Todd fleshes out Iliona’s character a bit more in this installment. After learning more about Iliona’s past and what she has survived, I like her even more.

While this book could possibly stand on its own, I do recommend reading the first book, Blind Eye, before attempting this tale in order to have a better feel for Iliona, Lysander, their history, and the world they live in. Also, Ms. Todd switched between a lot of viewpoints in Blind Eye, and she continues that pattern in Blood Moon. I feel I was better prepared for this having read Blind Eye first. I do think that the number of viewpoints could be whittled down a little. While the differing perspectives are interesting, I found myself wishing I could spend more time with Iliona and Lysander.

Lysander and Iliona’s partnership continues to be interesting. Iliona barely tolerated Lysander in Blind Eye, and her feelings for him haven’t changed. She definitely resents his presence in her life. That being said, I do think they worked together better this time around. Iliona seems to be developing a grudging respect for Lysander, and I daresay he is starting to like her. However, Lysander is a very secretive character, and I can never be sure what his true motivations are. I look forward to seeing what will happen to them in the next mystery.

Ms. Todd did an excellent job of weaving mysteries together. As I read, I enjoyed trying to figure out if various characters were connected or acting on their own and who the murderer was. I must admit that when the culprit was revealed, I was a little shocked with how Iliona chose to deal with the murderer. It was certainly a side of her I’ve never seen.

I truly enjoyed reading Blood Moon. It is an intriguing mystery sure to keep readers engaged. I’ll certainly be picking up the next book in this series.
